Denver Arts Events August 11-17

Tired of sweltering in the heat? This week’s list includes a variety of nighttime activities spanning music, theater, and comedy, most of which are hosted in venues with air conditioning. If I had five nights to enjoy a performance, concert, or exhibit this week, this is what I’d do. Enjoy.

✺ August 11: Catch Rosali, who sings slow-burn indie rock lyrics with soul, alongside Trummors and Palamara, at East Colfax’s Lost Lake Lounge. Doors open at 7 p.m. Get tickets.

✺ August 12: This Tuesday, popular Bluegrass band, Yonder Mountain String Band, will be performing at Denver Botanic Gardens. Get there early to see the gardens’ American impressionism exhibit, Blue Grass, Green Skies. Full disclosure, the concert is sold out, but it looks like there are resale tickets available on other platforms. 6:30 p.m. Search tickets.

✺ August 13: Become a part of the action at Sweet & Lucky: Echo, a new immersive theater experience by Zach Morris and Third Rail Projects at DCPA Off-Center at Broadway Park®. The show opens on August 13 and runs through October 5. 7:00 p.m. (matinees available on weekends). Get tickets.

✺ August 15: This edition of Denver’s regular Moth StorySLAM, hosted at Swallow Hill Music, will boast 5-minute open-mic stories from members of the community about feeling young. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Get tickets.

✺ August 15: Join MSU’s Center for Visual Arts for the opening reception of the Dance of Resistance. The exhibit, curated by Jenna Miles and Cecily Cullen, amplifies the voices of LGBTQ+ artists. Opening reception begins at 6:00 p.m., exhibition runs through October 25. Learn more and register for the free event.

August 15-16: Michael Ian Black, who you may know from shows like The State and Reno 911, will be performing standup at Denver Comedy Underground. Comedy at this venue is served with a side of free pizza if this starry headliner isn’t enough. Get tickets.

✺ Ongoing: If you’re heading up I-70 this weekend, make a detour to go see one of Thomas Dambo’s famous trolls, Isak Heartstone, who sits outside of Breckenridge.
