Denver Arts Events September 1-7, 2025
Artists work hard creating beautiful things to take our minds off the icky things (or to draw more attention to them), and sometimes people don’t take them seriously. Since it’s Labor Day, I want to take a minute to acknowledge this work. Which is to say, let’s support our local artists this and every week. If I had five nights to enjoy a performance, concert, or exhibition this week, this is what I’d do. Enjoy.
✺ Sept. 1 Have you ever wanted to join a book club, but for plays? Well, here’s your chance! On Monday, you can attend Play Date at Hooked on Colfax and read and discuss “The Association of Strong Spirited Humans Against Tyranny… And Stuff: Or An Idiot’s Guide to Making a Militia” by Kyle J. McCloskey. 5 p.m. More info.
✺ Sept. 2 Wonderbound, one of Denver’s contemporary ballet companies, offers a unique experience of sitting in on open rehearsals. Join them Tuesday through Friday from 11:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. to experience the process. Right now, it looks like they’re rehearsing for Garrott Ammon’s Rock Ballet, which should be fun. More info.
✺ Sept. 5 Join the Colorado South Asian Artists Group for the opening reception of their inaugural group exhibition, Roots & Routes, curated by Bala Thiagarajan. The exhibition explores identity as it crosses borders through vibrant works spanning media. This is a free event at Englewood City Center. 6 p.m. Get tickets.
✺ Sept. 5-6 Featuring local and international artists, What We Hold On To at the Black Cube Nomadic Museum explores the concept of emotional, psychological, and cultural storage. RSVP for opening weekend.
✺ Sept. 6-7 Enjoy performances by seven local dance companies, and a solo performance by Cleo Parker Robinson at the Presenting Denver Dance Festival at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts. Get Tickets.
